In some cases your pet may need a blood test as part of a health check prior to a general anaesthetic, because they are unwell, or to monitor treatment of a disease. We can run a variety of tests in-house to quickly diagnose disease or infection and to assess response to treatment;

  • Blood Analysis – we have biochemistry and haematology analysers in practice so we can run a range of blood tests in-house to provide our clients with same-day results. We also have in-house test kits which allow us to same-day diagnose Canine Parvovirus, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)/Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV), Lungworm and Canine and Feline Pancreatitis.
  • Microscopy – Each of our practices have a microscope which can be used to examine skin scrapings, hair plucks, ear swabs, blood, urine and faeces, Again these analyses are usually performed in-house with results available the same day.
  • Urinalysis – We can perform a range of urine tests in-house, again with same-day results! Urinalysis can be useful when checking organ function, dehydration and looking for urine crystals. All of these provide insight into your animals’ health and can help diagnose and treat a range of different conditions.

For all other tests, we also have links to an external laboratory where we can send samples for external analysis. The results for many of these tests can be reported within 24hrs!

Did you know we recommend routine blood testing for all animals over 7 years of age? It is around this age that dogs and cats can begin to develop a range of medical conditions and routine testing can provide early detection and diagnosis.
